The Breakers Palm Beach: A Masterclass in Hospitality

Reflections from a two-night stay at one of Florida's most iconic resorts.

My husband and I recently had the opportunity to enjoy a hosted two-night press stay at The Breakers Palm Beach, experiencing many of the resort's accommodations, dining venues, amenities, and spa offerings. From the moment we arrived, I was struck not only by the beauty and history of the property, but also by the level of care and intentionality behind the guest experience.

As we drove up the long entrance lined with palm trees and passed the iconic fountain, there was a sense of history and grandeur that was impossible to miss. Walking into the breathtaking lobby, inspired by Italian Renaissance architecture, felt like stepping into another world. For a moment, I forgot I was in Florida and felt transported to Europe.

The View

The check-in process was seamless, and when we opened the door to our Oceanfront Room, we immediately understood why the resort is called The Breakers. The waves seemed almost within reach. I've stayed at many oceanfront properties over the years, but I've never experienced accommodations that felt quite so connected to the ocean. The views were absolutely breathtaking.

Waiting in our room was a beautiful assortment of chocolates, along with thoughtfully curated amenities and special touches that immediately made us feel welcome. Looking back, those details would become a recurring theme throughout our stay.

An Afternoon of Padel

Shortly after arriving, we climbed into one of the resort's house cars—a Maybach—and headed to The Breakers' Racquet Sports Complex.

Coming from a family that loves racquet sports, I've visited my fair share of tennis and racquet facilities over the years. This was easily one of the most impressive.

The grounds were beautifully maintained, and the complex offers something for every racquet sports enthusiast, including padel, clay tennis courts, grass courts, pickleball courts, and hard courts.

My husband and I opted to play padel, and what stood out wasn't just the quality of the courts but the overall experience. Shaded seating areas, chilled towels, refreshments, snacks, and attentive service created an environment that felt both luxurious and welcoming.

It was the perfect way to kick off our stay.

Seafood Bar

After freshening up back in our room, we headed to Seafood Bar for dinner.

One of the restaurant's most unique features is the aquarium built directly into the bar. We were seated by the window overlooking the ocean, and the combination of beautiful views, outstanding service, and delicious food made for a fantastic evening. I enjoyed a fish entrée, while my husband ordered the crab cakes and declared them one of the best meals he has ever had. We also shared oysters, which were excellent.

HMF

Following dinner, we made our way to HMF for dessert and a celebratory glass of champagne. The ambiance was sophisticated yet lively, creating the perfect setting to unwind after a wonderful first day. Between the service, the atmosphere, and the dessert, it was a fitting end to an exceptional evening.

Fitness and Breakfast at the Beach Club

The next morning started with a visit to the fitness center.

The space was expansive, well-equipped, and offered beautiful views overlooking the pools and ocean. After my workout, I stopped in the lobby for complimentary coffee. One small detail that stood out was having an attendant there to pour coffee for guests. It's a simple gesture, but one that speaks to the level of hospitality that seems woven into the culture of the resort.

Breakfast at the Beach Club was another highlight. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful Florida weather while I savored avocado toast and fresh berries.

One unexpected detail caught my attention. Near the outdoor dining area was a trained falcon and handler helping deter birds from approaching guests' tables. It was such a creative and thoughtful solution and another example of how carefully the guest experience has been considered.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look

Later that morning, I had the opportunity to tour the property with Sara Flight, Director of Communications. Learning more about the resort's history was fascinating, but what impressed me most was how intentional the organization has been about preserving its legacy while continuing to evolve. The resort invests an average of $30 million annually in improvements and revitalization projects.

During the tour, I visited several of the stunning meeting and event spaces and saw preparations underway for an employee volunteer event that was taking place the following day.

As someone who spends much of my time speaking about leadership, workplace culture, and employee well-being, I found myself paying close attention to how The Breakers talks about and invests in its people. It was clear that the commitment to excellence extends far beyond the guest experience.

Pool Time

Following the tour, my husband and I spent the afternoon enjoying one of the resort's private bungalows.

The bungalow provided the perfect home base for a relaxing day by the pool. It featured comfortable seating, a television, a private restroom, snacks, beverages, and outdoor lounge chairs with easy access to the resort's pools and hot tubs.

What impressed me most were the thoughtful touches. Sunscreen and after-sun care products were already stocked inside, eliminating the need to think about anything other than enjoying the day.

Spa and Salon

Later that afternoon, I visited the spa for a Tata Harper Body Treatment.

The experience included an invigorating scrub followed by nourishing oils that left my skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The spa itself was beautiful, offering a peaceful retreat complete with elegant lounge spaces, chocolates, and macarons for guests to enjoy.

Afterward, I headed to the salon for a wash and style. While chatting with my stylist, I asked what she enjoyed most about working at The Breakers. She shared that her experience there has been very different from other places she has worked and that she genuinely feels valued, supported, and cared for by the leadership team.

When I asked what makes her feel that way, she pointed to the little things. She shared that leaders regularly recognize employees for their contributions, ask how they can help, and take the time to understand what team members need to be successful. She even mentioned that they ordered a specific blow dryer she prefers to use. It may seem like a small detail, but to her, those thoughtful gestures make a big difference.

That conversation reinforced something I had been noticing throughout my stay: The Breakers appears to invest not only in creating an exceptional experience for guests, but also in creating an environment where employees feel supported and appreciated.

Henry's Palm Beach

That evening, we dined at Henry's Palm Beach, located just a short 10 minute stroll from the resort.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was fantastic, and my filet was cooked perfectly. It was another wonderful dining experience and a great way to spend our final evening.

A Memorable Farewell

On our final morning, we enjoyed breakfast in The Circle, one of the resort's most iconic spaces. The stunning room and exceptional buffet provided a fitting conclusion to our stay.

We had hoped to spend some time on the grass tennis courts before departing, but the weather had other plans. It simply gives us another reason to return.

While The Breakers is undeniably beautiful, what impressed me most was the consistency of the experience. Every interaction, every meal, and every amenity reflected a commitment to excellence.

The luxury, history, and oceanfront setting are remarkable, but it is the people, thoughtful details, and culture of care that truly make The Breakers Palm Beach a destination unlike any other.
